The Caribbean is the destination to holiday if you want to get the complete tropical experience. Beautiful beaches, sizzling nightlife, and island cuisine that will keep you coming back for more are just a few reasons to head to the Caribbean.

Jamaica has been influenced by Africa, Europe and Asia, and has combined all these traditions and cultures to form it’s own qualities. Kingston’s Devon House was the home of the first black millionaire in Jamaica. Tour this fantastic home not only for the history, but to see what gorgeous treasures it holds. While you’re there, sample some of Jamaica’s finest ice cream, the Devon House I Scream.

Montego Bay has spectacular beaches, private villas, and some amazing nightlife. Take a pirate cruise with your own personal storyteller. Croydon on the Mountains is an awesome plantation you can tour. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the lush countryside, the towering mountains and the serene waterfalls.

St. Lucia is a great place for the whole family. There are many resorts that offer special children’s clubs with activities to keep your kids entertained and happy. Let them run around Marigot Bay, where pirate ships used to hide out. Explore the wildlife at Maria Islands nature reserve for some unique sightings they won’t see anywhere else. Whale watching is also extremely popular in St. Lucia, with over 20 different species of whales spotted yearly. See your kids gaze in wonder at sperm whales, humpback whales, and even spotted dolphins.

Go off-road in Antigua on a jeep safari where you will travel through a sugar plantation, then kayak along the coast. Sample some of the fruits grown here, fresh or made into a mouth watering tropical drink. Take a boat to a small island where you will receive lunch and a fantastic snorkelling experience in the calm waters. Trek across the land and see beautiful tropical birds and local wildlife, and end your journey with a fantastic pelican viewing.

At Stingray city you can swim around with these magnificent sea creatures, and even hold and pet them. It is an experience you don’t want to miss.

Travel to Barbados, where you can stroll through Hunte’s Gardens. Enjoy classical music while you enjoy the secret gardens full of colourful flora, fauna, and statues. Mr. Hunt will guide you through and even offer you a delightful drink to cool you off.

Harrison’s Cave is a wonderful tour that takes you a mile into the heart of the cave. Fantastic formations are all around, and you will learn the history of how it was discovered.

The Caribbean is the perfect holiday spot to find adventure, or just to relax and unwind on a beautiful beach.

The Mayan people definitely were not afraid of heights judging by the way their temples appear to rise into the clouds. Well, at least those who lived at the time in which the jungle based temples were in use. But what many of us fail to realize is that these people have not died out, they are in fact alive and well in Mexico, Guatemala Belize and Honduras.

Venture over to see the impressive ancient Mayan structures of Itza, Tikal or Copan and then go beyond that to view the people in their modern day habitat. One of the best places to do this is the Guatemalan highlands. Travel three hours by bus from Guatemala City to the town of Chichicastenango and you will come face to face with a whole population of Mayan people.

It is a different existence to be certain, but like most of the other indigenous people of our world, they have acclimated. Still, they carry traditional goods and craftwork to markets to be sold, in addition to the making of stone formed tortillas for travellers to enjoy. Don’t make the journey to a Mayan site, and miss out on a day amongst the descendants of those who once lived amongst the hidden cities of the past.

One of the best ways to see the Mediterranean is on a cruise. Not only will travellers have luxury accommodation, world class dining and countless destinations at their fingertips, but there is no hassle involved with catching trains, buses or repacking each night. Thanks to a beautiful location, stunning architecture and impressive history, the Eastern Mediterranean is gaining popularity as a last minute cruise option for international holidays. Here are 5 of the best holiday destinations if you book Virgin Holidays Mediterranean cruises:

Athens

As the capital city of Greece and the birthplace of Western civilization, Athens is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Cruises will come to port in the ancient Piraeus, where it is a short trip to get to the heart of historic Athens. Many of the most significant landmarks are found in the Acropolis, the ancient city that overlooks Athens and boasts magnificent structures like the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike and the Propylaea. Other worthwhile destinations within the city itself are the Ancient Agora, the Kerameikos Cemetery and the many museums and art galleries reflecting Greek culture and history.

Venice

The beautiful city of Venice is one of the most popular locations in Italy, and is a popular port of call for cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. With water surrounding the city, and in fact traversing the major plazas in the forms of canals and lagoons, it is a large part of life for Venetian residents. Cars are not to be found anywhere in the ancient city, but gondolas can transport you when walking through the city become tiring. The major historical sites within the city of Venice include St. Mark’s Basilica, San Giacomo di Rialto, the Zattere and the Rialto Bridge.

Istanbul

As the only city on earth which can claim to be part of two different continents, Istanbul blends the best of Western culture and modernity with ancient Turkish history and heritage. The architecture is breathtaking, and includes world famous landmarks like the Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern and the Blue Mosque. Within the old city are marketplaces, or bazaars, selling fresh produce, spices, dried fruits and many souvenirs that are the perfect way to remember the holiday.

Dubrovnik

Along Croatia’s Southern coast lies the city of Dubrovnik, a beautiful ocean resort town which also happens to be a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is easily the most popular destination in Croatia, thanks to unparalleled scenery, a warm climate and stunning beaches. It is also home to a large historic town centre, filled with fascinating landmarks and well-preserved churches. The most popular sites include the Bell Town, Sponza Palace, the Placa Stradun and the 18th century Church of St. Ignatius and the Jesuit College.

Can’t wait to get away? Book a last minute cruise through Virgin and take advantage of great savings today!

So over the staycation, but hunting for something interesting to do within the UK? Then let me direct you to escorted rail holidays in England and I believe you will be enchanted. While it has been quite some time since I myself partook in a train journey for enjoyment, it will not be long before I take my next one. For I have family coming to visit from America who want to see what those who undertake long walks all over the country encounter, without actually having to pull on hiking boots. And based upon the fact that both of them are well into their seventies, a very active seventies, but nonetheless seventies, I think rail travel is perfect. In addition, I too would like to see more of the wonders of England without out making it a physical challenge of any degree.

As I was researching this prospect, I became more and more enamoured with the whole thing. Really, I had not thought to take such an adventure, but thanks to the upcoming visit I was lead to it. So much so that I have recommended it to my sister as a family holiday for her family of six. But, I have to admit I am secretly wishing it is not at the same time as our journey, because I want to take it all in without playing the role of doting aunt. Hope that doesn’t sound too awful, guess I should also hope she doesn’t read this. Take this as a form of inspiration to look into for yourself, if discovering some of the country’s most renowned cities and taking in its greatest rural landscape is music to your ears. Just think you don’t have to drive, you don’t have to navigate and you don’t have to create an itinerary, what you do have to do is sit back and let the train take you where you want to go.

Having just been travelling through two of the countries hit hard by the recession, I have to ask where are the discounts on food? For me, it seems like a no brainer to get the masses, or ok those with some discretionary spending and tourists to these locales. With deep cuts being made on accommodations, wouldn’t appear sensible for restaurateurs to follow that lead?

Without a doubt the place I saw the least reasonable pricing for food has got to be the Faro airport in Portugal. I mean, really, for a country so reliant on tourism, it would be prudent for travellers entering the country to be greeted by local cuisine at an acceptable, if not appealing price. And let’s not forget the same voyagers will be leaving the same way they came. Aren’t they familiar with the latency theory, where people have an inclination to remember the last thing they experience clearest? Yet, instead they have on offer little that is reflective of Portuguese food, and insanely expensive burgers and chips.

I feel compelled to tell someone that they are doing a disservice to themselves by gauging visitors. Not to mention they are doing it not once, but twice. Perhaps they could take a cue from other locations who have got the right idea.

Las Vegas is a gambling destination. The majority of holiday seekers are looking to try their luck at nickel slot machines and gaming tables. The idea of being a big winner is always lurking in the back of people’s heads. To return from your holiday with a fatter bankroll is part of what makes Las Vegas so alluring. To be able to tell your friends that you hit the jackpot on the craps table is the best souvenir you can bring back from Vegas. However, what if you do not enjoy gambling? Is Las Vegas still a great holiday option if you do not like slot machines or roulette? The answer is: absolutely.

There is so much to see and do in Las Vegas. Even if gambling is not your number one priority there are still an endless amount of activities, events and sights to fill the itinerary of several Las Vegas holidays. If gambling is not your thing, then there are several other ways to spend your time in Sin City.

1. When you think about Las Vegas, the art world does not usually come to mind. However, the Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio Hotel offers world-class masterpieces that rival the museums in New York and London. The ceiling of the hotel lobby is hung with Dale Chihuly sculptures. These hand blown glass flowers are delicate and beautiful, and when the light hits them the sculptures come alive with intricate prisms and colourful hues. Needless to say, these sculptures are just a precursor for what is to come. The gallery itself has artwork borrowed from international museums and private collections. From Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet to Andy Warhol and David Hockney, this gallery is a must-see for anyone who loves art.

2. A breath taking scenic view is as much a part of a holiday as sending a postcard. The Stratosphere Tower does not disappoint. Located at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino, this tower is considered to be the highest freestanding observation platform in the United States. If you want to fully appreciate the beauty and majesty of the Vegas strip, then a trip up the 113-floor Stratosphere Tower is a necessity. It does not end there, as the hotel also has the highest restaurants and clubs in Las Vegas.

3. Take a day trip to the Hoover Dam. Located in the Black Canyon, this massive feat of human engineering is just a short ride from Las Vegas. The Hoover Dam is a National Historic Landmark, and it is considered one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century. Built out of concrete, the dam stands roughly 750 feet above the raging Colorado River.

Click here for great deals and offers at the Las Vegas Holiday deals and Luxor Hotel Las Vegas.

Sail the majestic Nile and discover the majestic antiquities of Egypt. You’ll enjoy abandoning the encumbrances of stop and go that accompanies air and land tours. Along the banks of the Nile, you’ll get real life feel of ancient rural Egypt. The cruise ship, also known as a floating hotel, will have all the amenities of comfort and luxury to ensure a dream vacation. Sit on the shaded decks and sip your favourite beverage while watching 6,000 years of timeless culture drift by.

Nile cruises offer an array of stay, but often range from three to seven nights. The briefer tours are usually operated between Aswan and Luxor, while longer stays travel further to Dendera. A complete 14 day tour may include several days around the city of Cairo. Most of the cruise ships will offer same accommodations as a land hotel, including good restaurants, swimming pools, hot tubs, discos and stores. The cuisine features a variety of local and international cuisine. Entertainment usually includes Nubian shows and belly dancers.

Whatever Nile cruise you book, there will always be a multilingual Egyptologist guide. These expert guides are well trained in the knowledge of Egypt and its ancient landmarks. Embark on a four day cruise that will take you through the East Bank, the West Bank, Edfu and Aswan. In Luxor, you’ll discover the Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple. Luxor was previously known as ancient Thebes and houses monumental statues of ancient Egypt. During the Roman era, the temple was a fortress and home to the Roman government.

The following day you’ll sail to the West Bank to see the Necropolis of Thebes, The Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Valley of the Kings, and the Colossi of Memnon. The Valley of the Kings is an area hollowed out from the Theban Mountains and contains tombs of queens and kings. One of the known identified kings was Amenhotep III, and you’ll be able to enter the tomb areas with your guide. After touring, return to your ship for a relaxing dinner and show. Following the itinerary, cruise to Edfu for a visit to the Temple of Horus the following day.

The Temple of Horus is the best preserved ancient temple in Egypt and built during the reigns of six Ptolemies. There are numerous reliefs throughout the temple, including a relief of the Feast of the Beautiful Meeting. The pylons of the main temple feature scenes of the pharaoh in battle, and are approximately 188 feet high. The colonnaded courtyard has pared columns, and the gates lead to the great hypostyle hall.

Sailing on to Aswan, you’ll engage in a morning tour of the city with a visit to the High Dam, the magnificent Temple of Philae and an unfinished obelisk. The complex surrounding the Temple of Philae is a feast of architectural wealth. From the pharaohs to Caesar, ancient monuments encompass the area. Beyond the Temple of Philae, there are many small temples. All throughout the temples, there are ancient Greek inscriptions on the propyla.

For years, the magic of Egypt has captivated the world in mystery. Sailing along the Nile to discover this ancient civilization is an experience not to be missed.

Traveling by air with children has gotten more difficult in the last year or so. Unfortunately, no matter how well you plan, or how far in advance you organise the specific of your trip, you might find not all goes according to plan. Ah, such is life, and thanks to the limited funds that airlines are working with, such is flying.

One thing you should be prepared to face is the possibility that though you selected seats together for your family, this may not be what you find once onboard. Planes are being substituted more and more, and while the original plane may have had three across, now it has only two.

Therfore, you ned to be prepared to sweet talk some of the other passengers to trade seats with you and yours. To do this you must present well, and by this I mean have your troops ready. Have them finish all snacks prior to boarding, and be clear on who is carrying what on to the flight. A well organized first impression will garner you favour, because nobody will welcome the crumb covered, jam on the cheek and hands kid into their section.
