Well if you have ever thought about going to Machu Picchu, now would be timely. Though extensive archeological research has been conducted, new finds and new ideas are being unearthed. The city is undergoing excavation, and the archaeologists handling the site are looking at all they unveil in a new light.
If you happen to be someone who has more than a minor knowledge regarding the area, then you will probably be familiar with the fact that Yale University has a tremendous collection that was gathered from Machu Picchu, and the surrounding territory. However, you may not be aware that only twenty percent of their materials came from Machu Picchu itself.
What is going on now is smack dab in Machu Picchu, and all about it. Recently, a high ranking woman’s tomb was found, and investigated. Within, lay artifacts, and the remains of the woman herself. This, along with other new finds, are being displayed in the National Institute of Culture in Cusco.
But, should you go the site directly, you may hear directly from the archaeologists that some of the most prominent relics, and spaces are being reviewed, and in many cases old beliefs of their purpose are being reassigned. Though it was previously thought that the rediscovery of Machu Picchu that was conducted by archaeologists more than a century ago was a point of clarification. It appears as though that rediscovery is being reevaluated, and to travel there now may place a visitor in the thick of it.
